Internationally renowned writer Chetan Bhagat has rightly criticised Supreme Court verdict in strongest words without mincing any words that Supreme Court should also show similar courage to ban even much bigger evils like self-torture and killing of innocent animals in name of God by people of other communities. If Diwali was the only occasion to be purified, then other evils like distribution of harmful sweets and bribing through gifts should also have been banned.
No one can deny that checking ever-increasing pollution is of utmost importance, and bursting of crackers needs to be restricted. But the way Supreme Court has done has badly hurt religious sentiments of majority community of the nation. Better is to altogether ban crackers throughout the country on an experimental basis completely even for festivals of other religions, new-year eve and other celebrations all the year round. It is for the central government to approach Supreme Court to immediately review its verdict by presenting some government-initiatives which may be fruitful in restricting bursting of crackers not only in Delhi but also throughout the country and for all the year round.
